Prisoners' Rights
If you are a prisoner, or if you know someone that is in one of H M Prisons, then you may find that it is all a bit daunting. There is a whole new way of life to come to terms with. This is where you may need the advice of a specialist in the field.
We do not just leave our clients to get on with life in the prison estate once the Judge has passed sentence. Although there are people to help within the prison, they may only be able to provide limited help with day to day problems that do not need the intervention of a lawyer.
Prison is a restriction on freedom – that almost goes without saying. But there are some things that should not happen in a prison. We believe strongly that prisoners' rights should be protected and championed. It does not matter what a person has done to put them in custody in the first place, everyone is entitled to a basic level of respect and dignity. We all have basic human rights that should not be interfered with even in custody.
Consequently we have a specialist Prisoners Rights team headed by Matt Aldwinckle who specialises in this area of work and who has the Institute of Prison Law Accreditation in Prison Law work.
