At the Police Station
If you are arrested or asked to attend a police station for a voluntary interview, ask for First Defence Solicitors before you say anything. It may harm your defence if you answer questions without our advice. One of our highly qualified and experienced police station representatives is available, on the phone and in person, 24 hours a day, every single day of the year.
Asking for a solicitor does not mean you are guilty.
When you ask for us, it is a completely free service, no matter who you are, and is independent of the police. The police arrest people they believe are involved in a criminal offence based on information they receive. If we are with you, we get disclosure from them about what the allegations are against you, if you’re on your own, you don’t get that disclosure.
Disclosure is where the police supply us with information about their investigation before the interview. Having us there to defend you at an early stage in a police investigation could make all the difference. We will ensure that your legal rights are protected at all times, and make sure that your defence is properly put forward in an interview. It may even mean that the police decide not to charge you at all.
Benefit fraud allegations can be daunting and complicated. If it is alleged you have committed benefit fraud, we can be there to help you in an interview situation. The interview process is similar to that at the police station and can involve tape recording under caution. It is your right to have us by your side.
We can also be present to support you during most interviews with local Borough Council and Trading Standards, and one of our representatives will be more than happy to discuss this with you free of charge.
